Is it possible to make same-day reservations? Do you take walk- ins?
For same-day reservations, you may book on our website up until 30 minutes before session begins.
Otherwise, please give us a call on 03-6886-4256 to check for availability.
You may also visit our store directly to inquire. If there is an opening, we may be able to serve you in a timely manner.
If not, we can let you know what time to return to the store when there’s an opening later.
Reservation changes or cancellation
For date and time changes to your reservation or cancellations, please contact us at least two days prior to your scheduled visit by phone
on 03-6886-4256 or via email at yaekimono8@yae-japan.com.
Please note that :
- Cancelling 2 days before booking incurs 0% cancellation fee.
- Cancelling the day before, or on the day itself, will incur 100% of the rental price as cancellation fee.
About dressing & hair styling
How long does it take to put on a Kimono and hairstyling?
On average, it takes about 20-30 minutes for men and 30-40 minutes for women to get changed into Kimonos and hair styled.
Please note that there may be long wait time during peak seasons when the store is full. If you have specific plans after it is advised to allocate more time than you may think you need.

Where do I leave my belongings and the clothes I was wearing?
We will store your belongings that you arrived with in our store after you finished getting changed.
Please be sure to take your valuables with you.
Everything will be retrieved for you when you return.
For larger items like baby strollers or large luggage, storage fee is 500yen per piece.
What should we bring with us on the day of our reservation?
Please come dressed lightly. Everything you need is included in the plan (kimono, obi, undergarment, bag to carry with Kimono, zori (sandals), tabi (socks), etc.)
In summer we suggest wearing thin inners because of the heat, and in winter we recommend wearing thin thermal clothing such as heat-tech shirts and leggings to keep you warm.
Please refrain from wearing an inner layer with a high collar that may interfere with the complete look of the Kimono.
I am tall/wide/short/, do you have other sizes of kimonos?
We have kimonos in both large and small sizes. Please note that for those who are of tall stature there are fewer variety of Kimonos to choose from.

We accept cash, credit cards, Apple Pay, Alipay, Wechat pay, Suica and Pasmo.
About returning
What is the deadline for returning the kimono?
Please return to our store by 5:30 pm.
Returns later than 5:30 will incur an additional late fee of 2,500 yen per person every 15 minutes.
Next-day-return plan available as follows:
- Standard plan - 2000yen
- Retro plan - 3000yen
- Houmongi/Furisode/Hamaka - 4000yen
Please inquire with our staff directly for next-day-returns.
What happens if I accidentally stain the Kimono while renting?
There are no extra charges for normal wear and tear (spilled food, dirt or mud from the streets, abrasion, etc).
However, in the case of irreparable/unwashable stains like oil-based paint, or damages like cigarette burns,
there will be a damage fee of 20,000yen per Kimono and 2,500yen per Japanese umbrella.
About photography service
Can I still have a photoshoot if I didn't make a reservation?
Unreserved photoshoot service can only be arranged if our photographer is available.
If their schedules are full, we will not be able to provide the service.
Please make sure to book in advance to secure a session.
When will I receive the photos?
Unretouched photos will be emailed to you within 7 days after shooting date.
After we have confirmed the photos you’ve chosen, edited photos will be emailed to you within 3 weeks.

Where will the photoshoot take place? Can I go somewhere else like Meiji Jingu temple or Nezu?
The shooting service provided by YAE only takes place around Sensoji Temple and Asakusa main street.
Our photographer cannot take customers outside Asakusa area.
Do you have a studio for photoshoot?
We only provide outdoor shooting service.
Can I extend the shooting time?
We can only accommodate time extension in the case that our photographer does not already have another booking lined up.
Please inquire as soon as possible via email if you have a change of mind.
If it’s raining or snowing, will the shoot be cancelled?
The photoshoot can still take place if it rains or snows. It also allows for a different mood and tone of the photos!
It is also possible to rearrange the date of shooting if the weather is unfavorable for you, please contact us well in advance for rearrangement.
Is it possible to take photos after sunset?
Without sunlight, the photo quality will drop due to inadequate lighting.
We strongly recommend having the photoshoot before the sun sets as we do not provide additional lighting.
Others
Can you store our luggage and baby strollers?
You can leave your larger luggage and strollers at our store at 500yen per piece.
Is there a waiting area for accompanying members?
We have very limited space for waiting area.
During peak seasons when the store is full, we suggest that non-participating members of your group explore Asakusa instead of waiting inside the store and arrange to meet up when you are ready.
